New York-SANA

Today, the United Nations General Assembly renewed the adoption of a resolution by a majority of Member States calling on the Israeli occupation entity to fully withdraw from the occupied Syrian Golan to the line of June 4, 1967, in implementation of the relevant Security Council resolutions.

And 92 countries voted in favor of the resolution entitled “The Syrian Golan”, in return for the rejection of the occupation entity, and 8 countries, while 65 countries abstained from voting.

The resolution stipulates that the decision of “Israel” on December 14, 1981 to impose its laws and jurisdiction on the occupied Syrian Golan is null and void and has no legitimacy at all, as confirmed by the Security Council in its Resolution No. 497 of 1981, and calls on “Israel” to cancel it and to withdraw completely from the Golan The occupied Syrian until the line of June 4, 1967, in implementation of the relevant Security Council resolutions.

The Deputy Permanent Representative of Syria to the United Nations, Dr. Al-Hakam Dandi, said: The vote of the majority of member states in favor of the draft resolution entitled “The Syrian Golan” and also in favor of the decisions related to Palestine expresses the commitment of these countries to the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, in particular the basic principle of the inadmissibility of acquiring Territories by force and the keenness of those countries to lift the injustice of the peoples under occupation and support them to obtain their right to liberation from it.

Dandi indicated that the General Assembly, in the resolutions it adopts annually for more than five decades, has consistently called on “Israel” the occupying Power to end its occupation of the Syrian Golan and to affirm that any measures it takes to impose its laws and jurisdiction over the occupied Syrian Golan are null and void and have no legal effect whatsoever. The Security Council, in its resolution No. 497, affirmed the position of the General Assembly, as it also stipulated the rejection of the provocative decision of the Israeli occupation authorities regarding the occupied Syrian Golan, and considered it null and void and has no legal effect.

The deputy permanent representative of Syria to the United Nations stated that Israel's intransigence and refusal to implement the relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions confirms the unacceptable inability of the United Nations to oblige Israel to end its occupation of the Golan, as a result of the immunity from accountability provided by the United States and some other countries and their support. It has unlimited power inside and outside the United Nations, which encouraged the occupation authorities to continue their aggressive practices and escalate their attacks on Syrian territory and civilian facilities, including civilian ports and airports, endangering civilian lives, obstructing the delivery of UN humanitarian aid, and threatening peace and security in the region and the world.

Dandy renewed Syria's demand for the United Nations to take firm and immediate measures to put its decisions into practice to ensure an end to the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan and other occupied Arab lands, to stop the Israeli aggressions on Syrian lands, and to put an end to the crimes of settlement expansion, demographic change, plundering of resources, seizure of land and property, murder, arbitrary arrest, torture, and others. One of the grave violations that represent a systematic policy pursued by the occupation authorities over many decades against the occupied Syrian Golan and our people under occupation.

Dandy stressed Syria's firm adherence to its right to restore the entire occupied Golan to the line of June 4, 1967, and that this right is not subject to negotiation or concession, and it can never be lapsed by statute of limitations. Natural, demographic, or imposing its laws and powers on it are null and void and have no legal effect under international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

Dandy reaffirmed Syria's position in support of the Palestinian people and its stand by it in its struggle to liberate its occupied land and establish its independent and sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital and guarantee the refugees' right to return to their homeland in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, foremost of which is Resolution No. 194 of 1948 and its support also for Palestine to obtain a Full membership in the United Nations.
