Russia claims to have seized two towns in Donetsk province

Russia appoints new director of Zaporizhia nuclear power plant
Russia has appointed a new director for the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, controlled by the Russians since shortly after the start of the invasion.
This is Yuri Chernichuk, the former chief engineer of the plant and, therefore, an employee of Energoatom, the Ukrainian company that manages the atomic plants.

Los cuerpos fueron encontrados con las manos atadas, los ojos vendados y con disparos a quemarropa en la nuca. Su familia la enterró después en el cementerio.

Alemania anuncia más de 350 generadores a Ucrania
El Gobierno alemán ha anunciado este lunes su parte de la ayuda conjunta de los aliados internacional a Ucrania para enfrentarse a la destrucción de su infraestructura energética por los ataques rusos. Según ha comunicado el portavoz del Ejecutivo, Steffen Hebestreit, el canciller Olaf Scholz ha prometido al presidente ucranio Volodímir Zelenski 350 generadores y más ayuda a corto plazo. Según Hebestreit, hasta ahora Berlín ha aportado 56 millones de euros para el sector energético ucranio.
Mientras, la ministra de Exteriores, Annalena Baerbock, ha comentado en la reunión de ministros de la OTAN en Bucarest (Rumania) acerca de otras posibilidades para abastecer a los ucranios de energía. Entre las cosas que se están considerando está el desmontar generadores eléctricos de locomotoras y transportarlos a Ucrania. "Además de dinero, hace falta creatividad", ha indicado la ministra. EE UU anuncia 53 millones de dólares para el suministro eléctrico de Ucrania
El Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos ha anunciado este lunes en Bucarest un nuevo paquete de ayuda a Ucrania por valor de 53 millones de dólares para que Kiev pueda mantener el suministro de electricidad ante los bombardeos rusos contra su sistema energético.
La ayuda consistirá en transformadores y otros equipos destinados a producir electricidad o reparar el sistema eléctrico dañado por los misiles rusos y será enviado a Ucrania de manera urgente, dice el comunicado.
El secretario de Estado, Antony Blinken, ha informado a sus aliados de esta nueva iniciativa de apoyo al sector energético ucranio en la reunión que el G-7 —los siete países democráticos más industrializados del mundo— ha celebrado durante la cumbre de ministros de Exteriores de la OTAN, que se ha llevado a cabo este lunes en la capital rumana.
Desde el comienzo de la invasión a gran escala de Ucrania por parte de Rusia el 24 de febrero, Washington "ha suministrado casi 32.000 millones de dólares en asistencia a Ucrania, entre ellos 145 millones para ayudar a reparar, mantener y reforzar el sector eléctrico ucranio ante los ataques continuados". Estonia emite una moneda de dos euros en homenaje a Ucrania
El Banco de Estonia ha anunciado este lunes la comercialización de dos millones de monedas de dos euros en homenaje a Ucrania, cuyos beneficios irán a "la lucha ucrania por la libertad". "Esta moneda recuerda a la gente que la libertad es lo más valioso y cuesta un precio muy alto", ha informado el gobernador del Banco de Estonia, Madis Müller, en un comunicado. Según el banco, que había empezado a recibir pedidos por la moneda en verano, la primera donación, de 350.000 euros, ya ha sido enviada a Ucrania, "y seguramente habrá más".

Rusia vincula el tratado para el control del armamento nuclear al apoyo de EE UU a Ucrania

La portavoz del Ministerio de Exteriores ruso, María Zajárova, ha ofrecido algunos detalles más sobre la suspensión del encuentro bilateral que iba a mantener su país con Estados Unidos para abordar el tratado para el control del armamento nuclear, el New START. Moscú ha acusado a Washington de mantener “el nivel más alto de toxicidad y hostilidad” en su trato hacia su país, y ha subrayado que el acuerdo para evitar una confrontación nuclear no puede ser “un ente aislado y autónomo de realidades geopolíticas” como la guerra de Ucrania.
“Hay que seguir una lógica muy peculiar para hablarle a Rusia de moderación, de transparencia y de previsibilidad en asuntos militares, cuando al mismo tiempo se ayuda al régimen de Kiev a matar a nuestros militares y civiles en las regiones rusas”, ha afirmado Zajárova en su cuenta de Telegram, donde ha incidido en que Washington proporciona a Kiev “medios cada vez más destructivos” y “asesores y mercenarios estadounidenses”.
“Respecto al propio tratado START, aquí también vemos los constantes intentos de Estados Unidos de 'corregir' el equilibrio establecido y cambiarlo a su favor”, ha agregado Zajárova, que acusó a Washington de cambiar sobre el papel el uso de varias armas, incluidos varios silos y decenas de bombarderos B-52H, para que no figuren como armas estratégicas sometidas al acuerdo.
EE UU exige a Rusia que cumpla una de las partes clave del tratado y facilite la inspección de sus arsenales nucleares. Esta iniciativa dejó de hacerse a principios de 2020 por la pandemia, y Moscú ha tachado esta petición de “caprichosa”. En su publicación, Zajárova ha echado la culpa a Washington por imponer “medidas restrictivas contra Rusia” y rechazar las objeciones rusas “bien fundadas” a su inspección.
La portavoz rusa ha mostrado su confianza en que se reanuden los contactos sobre este tratado en el año 2023 y ha señalado que el acuerdo sigue siendo útil “gracias al funcionamiento ininterrumpido del intercambio de notificaciones sobre el estado de las armas estratégicas ofensivas”.
