(CNN Spanish) --

Mexico beat Saudi Arabia 2-1.

He tied one game, lost another and won another.

He reached 4 points.

He scored two goals.

Poland drew one game, won another and lost another.

He reached 4 points.

He scored two goals.

But Poland qualified for the round of 16 and Mexico did not.

The reason: The next tiebreaker after points is goal difference.

Tata Martino's team stayed at the gates of the classification, with a not very outstanding performance, with few goals but with results that in other groups might have been enough to qualify.

It was a cliffhanger in Qatar: while Argentina had settled the game 2-0 over Poland and had assured qualification, Mexico beat Saudi Arabia 2-0 but was left out due to a tiebreaker on yellow cards.

Then the Saudis scored and the factor was goal difference.

It was 2-1 final.

Mexico scored two goals and conceded three.

He was left with -3.

Poland scored two and conceded two goals.

I stay at 0.

Mexico's path in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was not convincing: it began with a goalless draw with Poland, then lost 0-2 with Argentina and left many doubts about its performance.

In the third game, against Saudi Arabia, El Tri was encouraged, finally scored but did not reach him.

Martin and Chávez scored, Mexico pressed but the cherry was missing for a last-minute cake.

Saudi Arabia's late goal only put the nail in the coffin: prior to that goal Mexico was out on fair play as a tiebreaker.

Mexico was left with 7 yellow cards.

Poland only received 5.
