The head of the Department of International Studies at the Institute of Linguistics of the Northeastern Russian Federal University, Dariana Maksimova, announced that the issue of preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage of the peoples of the Arctic region will be a priority for the work of the Russian-Asian consortium, which was created two days ago.
TASS news agency quoted Maksimova as saying on the sidelines of the Northern Forum for Stable Development in the city of Yakutsk, northeastern Russia: “We have taken the initiative to create the Russian-Asian consortium, which would preserve the languages of indigenous peoples in the Arctic region,” noting that scientists in the Russian Republic of Yakutia They are still working on the development of a project to digitize the linguistic and cultural heritage of the peoples of North and Northeast Russia.
Maximova explained that the consortium was joined by 10 Russian and foreign universities and organizations, and the project was supported by the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is noteworthy that the Northern Forum for Stable Development, which is held in the city of Yakutsk, is an annual international arena for discussing development issues for the North and the Arctic region. It is held this year within the framework of the Russian presidency of the Arctic Council of States from 2021 to 2023.
