A nurse administered a life-threatening overdose of paracetamol to the nine-month-old Uraz Erim in the Kassel hospital.

The baby is slowly getting better.

Kassel – Uraz Erim, nine months old, looks around unsettled.

He holds on to his mom's arm and hides behind her for a bit.

"Actually, he's always very active, but since the hospital he's been super clingy," says Eylem Kayacan, hugging her son.

The young family has had turbulent days, reports hna.de.

The boy was admitted to the Kassel Clinic because of an RS virus infection with a high fever.

There, a nurse injected him with a life-threatening overdose of paracetamol.

The baby ended up in intensive care with liver values that were far too high.

Now, ten days later, Uraz Erim can leave the Kassel clinic again.

He is doing better, but long-term liver damage cannot yet be ruled out, the parents say.

After an overdose of paracetamol for a baby: the police confirm the initial suspicion

“His blood values are developing well, but the liver values are still way too high.

There are still many question marks,” says Eylem Kayacan.

Her son will continue to be examined regularly over the next two months.

The 31-year-old could hardly leave him alone after the traumatic experience.

“We have become overly cautious.

We are afraid that he will get sick again.”

Even if the clinic made an effort after the nurse's mistake, the trust was broken.

"We were looked after very well afterwards, but we still had to discover the mistake ourselves and fight for the matter to be taken seriously," says Dogan Kayacan.

Even after the couple informed the nurse and other employees of the children's ward that the amount of paracetamol was too high, those involved did not admit their wrongdoing, says the father.

It was only when he called the police and the officers questioned the nurse that she admitted to having given the baby an overdose and informed a doctor.

The police confirmed this initial suspicion when asked by the HNA.

"We're glad to be back home" - Baby is better after an overdose of paracetamol

“We are all human and make mistakes.

But how can I not admit that and thus prevent a child from being treated properly,” asks Eylem Kayacan.

She and her husband have taken the past two weeks with them.

The stress is now expressed through physical symptoms, and their son's illness has also left its mark on the couple mentally.

Nevertheless, the young family is now looking forward to their first Christmas together.

"We're happy to be back home," says Eylem Kayacan.

The parents enjoy the time with their son.

“We have to see how everything develops now.

But he is very strong,” the two agree.

Despite all the concerns, despite all the worries that are still there: This is a ray of hope after days of great anxiety.
