Brigitte Schauer was director of the Langenpreising parish library for 27 years.

Now she is leaving her old place of work.

Her successor is Manuela Hofmair.

Langenpreising

– Even as a child, Brigitte Schauer enjoyed going to the library.

As an adult, she still loved the Langenpreising parish library - and was involved as director of the facility for 27 years.

Volunteer mind you.

The outstanding decades-long commitment was honored in a special way at a small ceremony on the nationwide reading day by Sabine Adolph from the Sankt Michaelsbund, church nurse Margot Myrt and Pastor Gregor Bartkowski.

"It was nice," was Brigitte Schauer's summary of the good quarter of a century when she said goodbye.

She came to the Langenpreising facility in 1994 when a manager for the parish library was being sought.

At that time it was clear to her: "I'll do that!"

Everything began, with the support of Karin Dürr, in a small room in the old church kindergarten - makeshift and with the prospect that a completely modern new library was planned in the newly renovated vicarage.

Three years later, the move to the bright rooms with new furniture and books took place.

"That attracted reading enthusiasts, and on Sunday after the service the lending service was buzzing, the library was almost a sure-fire success," remembers Schauer of the beginnings.

At that time there were no computers, for a long time people worked with book and reader cards.

The books were not cataloged until much later.

"We learned how to apply for grants and edit books and took part in the diocesan courses of the Sankt Michaelsbund," says Schauer.

At the parish festivals, a book flea market was held and lectures were offered.

"As a small thank you, the whole team ate together once a year."

The activities were expanded more and more.

Since the year 2000, the community has been involved in the holiday program.

The children were enthusiastic about the reading nights in the parish library with night hikes, reading and sleeping in the library rooms.

Afternoons on various topics followed, but also a visit to the Bayerischer Rundfunk.

A storytelling theater called Kamishibai was even set up for the younger children.

As part of the "bibfit" program, there is also cooperation with kindergartens and elementary schools.

Classes and groups visit the library regularly.

When the primary school was outsourced due to the new building, the library even moved to the alternative rooms to the football club home on Deutlmooser Strasse as a mobile library, the church minister praised the commitment.

According to the motto "Libraries promote reading - we promote libraries", Bayernwerk AG honored the excellent offer, the commitment and the commitment of the employees and volunteers with an amount of 1000 euros in 2015.

Myrt also praised the former library manager for administrative work, which was always perfectly managed.

Schauer always did her work “with heart and soul”.

Adolph from the Sankt Michaelsbund was also impressed by the openness of the long-time library manager: "You have made the library a little bit of home." For so much commitment, the Sankt Michaelsbund gave a certificate, gifts and a gold medal of honour.

There were also small farewell gifts from the community for Schauer.

Manuela Hofmair, who is now in charge of the library, also received a welcome greeting.

Schauer will visit her to borrow in the future.

For her, it goes without saying: "As a reader, I will of course stay with the library."
