Because of the corona pandemic, the district of Freising has used additional buses to transport schoolchildren.
The good news: the buses stay.
for now.
Freising
- In autumn 2020, when the corona pandemic was raging, the Freising district used additional booster buses to transport schoolchildren.
In May 2022, the planning committee of the district then decided to maintain this offer until the end of the year without funding from the Free State of Bavaria.
The end of the year will soon be upon us, which is why the district councils were asked and had to decide whether the eleven "corona amplifiers" should be taken over into regular operation from 2023.
According to MVV and the district administration, the additional trips have proven their worth.
Because it can also be assumed that the number of pupils will continue to rise and that there will therefore be an (additional) need for transport, the administration proposed that the “Corona school bus booster” be put into regular operation from January 1, 2023.
Additional costs of 400,000 euros are to be expected
Of course, that costs money: After the coordination of the MVV with the transport companies concerned, a total of 2168 euros would be incurred for the booster trips per day of use.
The costs for a school year with an average of 185 school days would therefore amount to around 400,000 euros.
However, Josef Deliano (CSU) would have liked to have had more precise figures on the utilization of the additional buses.
After all, it's about 400,000 euros.
Lars Tauber, head of the road traffic office, was unable to give any specific figures quickly, but assured that these were only lines whose utilization was “critical” even before Corona.
He could definitely rule out empty runs, the amplifiers would continue to be well filled.
There is certainty for next year: the amplifiers will remain
Because on the one hand Deliano and other district councilors insisted on more precise figures, and on the other hand the decision to continue the journey had to be made now in order to implement it in 2023, a compromise was agreed: the amplifiers will remain in place for the next year.
However, before they are transferred to regular operation, exact numbers of capacity utilization are presented.
