In order to avoid a traffic check, a driver from Geretsried literally dived into a garden pond.
Geretsried – The 42-year-old was driving his Kia on Elbestraße at around 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday when a patrol crew from the Geretsried police station wanted to check him.
The Geretsrieder ignored the officials' stop signal, accelerated and fled into the adjacent residential area.
At Amselweg he jumped out of his still rolling car and ran into a property at Rabenweg, where he tried to hide in a garden pond.
"So he disappeared in the truest sense of the word," writes the Geretsried police in their report.
Meanwhile, the driverless Kia rolled against a bench and the flower pot of a butcher's shop and caused property damage of around 500 euros.
The police found the 42-year-old soaking wet and freezing in the water and took him to their office.
The reason for his escape attempt became clear very quickly: the man was heavily intoxicated and did not have a driver's license.
The officials drove him to the district clinic in Wolfratshausen to have his blood drawn.
His car was towed.
Investigations are now underway against the Geretsrieder for endangering road traffic, driving without a license and traffic accident escape.
