Paris estimated Thursday, December 1 that the Franco-Palestinian lawyer Salah Hamouri, detained without formal charge in Israel since last March and who must be expelled to France, should "

be able to lead a normal life in Jerusalem

".

The 37-year-old lawyer "

must be able to lead a normal life in Jerusalem, where he was born and where he lives, and his wife and children must be able to go there to find him

", considered the French ministry. Foreign Affairs in a statement.

Accused of being a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine

"

France is following the situation (...) very closely and at the highest level

," he added, recalling that President Emmanuel Macron had raised his case during a telephone interview with Israeli Prime Minister Yair. Lapid.

The services of the ministry "

are in close contact with his family and his lawyers

".

Salah Hamouri was sentenced in March to three months of administrative detention, a controversial measure allowing Israel to incarcerate suspects without formal charges.

His detention had been extended for the first time in June, then again in September, by the Israeli military justice, which considers him to be a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

But the Franco-Palestinian denies belonging to this Marxist organization, considered “

terrorist

” by the Jewish state and the European Union.

His lawyers “

have been notified orally that he will be deported on Sunday.

It's heartbreaking, bewildering

," his wife, Elsa Lefort, told AFP on Wednesday.

Salah is kicked out of his home, which makes us sad.

We wanted to live together in Jerusalem, with our children, where Salah was born.

Living together is something we haven't had since they were born

,” she added.

Born in East Jerusalem, the part of the Holy City annexed and occupied by the Jewish state, Salah Hamouri does not have Israeli nationality but a simple residence permit, revoked last year by the Israeli authorities.

Salah Hamouri was imprisoned in Israel between 2005 and 2011 for participating in the attempted assassination of Ovadia Yossef, Israel's former chief rabbi and founder of the ultra-Orthodox Shass party.

He was released in 2011, shortly before the end of his sentence, as part of a prisoner exchange that led to the release of Franco-Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
