Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reaffirmed his country's firm position on the crisis in Syria, stressing the need to support efforts for a political solution to the crisis in Syria in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2254, in a way that guarantees the extension of its sovereignty over all its lands and preserves the independence of its decision.
According to a statement issued today by Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “Shukry reaffirmed, during his meeting with Geir Pedersen, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, on the sidelines of their participation in the Rome-Mediterranean Dialogues Forum in the Italian capital, on the constants of the Egyptian position regarding The crisis in Syria, which is represented in the need to support the efforts of a political solution to the crisis in Syria in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2254, in a way that guarantees the extension of its sovereignty over all its lands and preserves the independence of its decision, as well as alleviating the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people.
The statement added: “Shukri and Pedersen stressed the importance of preserving Syrian sovereignty and agreed to continue consultations on ways to support a political solution to the crisis in Syria,” noting that the two sides also discussed current regional and international developments and their impacts on the stability of the countries of the region.
