Odyssey after a visit to the Christmas market: the couple can no longer find the car – the police help with a search that lasts for hours

They visited the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt and couldn't find their car afterwards.

A couple needed the help of the police - the search was laborious.

Nuremberg – The Central Franconia police reported on Facebook about the odyssey of an elderly couple after visiting the famous Nuremberg Christmas market.

Accordingly, a 75-year-old from Lower Franconia made his way to Nuremberg on the opening day of the Christmas market together with a female acquaintance from North Rhine-Westphalia "to see the nationally known Christkind in real life."

After visiting the Christmas market, however, an odyssey began for the elderly couple, "because they were so excited they forgot where they had parked their vehicle," the police said in the Facebook post.

After hours of unsuccessful searching, the two approached a patrol.

It was already dark now.

The duo explained that they were completely lost after the search and will not be able to find their car again without help.

Officials promised that the lost car would be found that same evening.

“Together with the older couple, the search began in the center of Nuremberg.

The driver of the vehicle no longer remembered where it was parked, which is why the search turned out to be more complex than initially thought,” the Facebook post continues.

The only hint was a handicapped parking space, on which the car should be parked.

“All in all, the colleagues, together with the older couple in the service vehicle, searched all disabled parking spaces in the city center in a coordinated manner, had nice conversations and were able to show a live demonstration of police work;

because by chance a shoplifter escaped from the main market.

With the presence of mind, the patrol was able to arrest the fleeing perpetrator in front of enthusiastic spectators," writes the police in Central Franconia humorously in the Facebook post.

Police Nuremberg helps couple in search of car - with success

After two hours of unsuccessful search, this was initially called off.

Relatives were called to take the man and his companion home.

"To the great luck of the elderly couple, however, they aroused the ambition of the officers on duty that evening and giving up was not an option that evening." After another hour, the car was found.

However, it was not in a handicapped parking space as described.

The car was in a small alley in the center of Nuremberg.

"When the vehicle was handed over, the owner and family, who were now on their way back, were visibly touched and could hardly believe their luck," the officials describe the situation.

"It's good that you exist.

You have to say a big thank you,” commented one woman.

"Thank you so much for your help and have a peaceful and beautiful Advent season," wishes another.

“I experienced something similar years ago in Amsterdam.

The police officers were also so nice and we found our car after three hours of searching.

But at that time we were younger than the described couple in Nuremberg.

It was really embarrassing for me, but the officers told us at the time that they were often looking for tourists' cars," says one woman, describing a very similar experience.

"That's why I always photograph the area where I park in big cities," another person gives a tip for future trips.

The Facebook post received over 2,000 likes or hearts in less than 24 hours and was shared nearly 80 times.
