I participated in a discussion with Prof. Penia Oz, to mark the 40th anniversary of the late Moti Kirschenbaum's film "To the Pits". Three months have passed since then.
In such political discussions you are usually not surprised.
The professor on the left speaks like a professor from the left, and the artist on the right (believe it or not, there is such a thing...) - like an artist on the right.
Still, one statement of hers surprised me greatly.
It was when she said: "I agree that there is currently no partner."
Since then I have heard this statement from several other members of the left, but the one who gave the most significant expression to this voice this week is the veteran journalist Raz Shachnik.
Shechnik, as an Israeli journalist at the World Cup, was shocked by the amount of hatred directed at him by fans from all over the Middle East, and this is how he writes:
"I admit: I became disillusioned here for the first time. I was always a centrist, liberal and open person, with a desire for peace above all else. I always thought that the problem was with the governments. With the rulers. With us too. But in Qatar I came to know how much hatred is the lot of the people on the street. How much they They want to wipe us off the face of the earth, to the extent that everything related to Israel arouses intense hatred in them.
"Now, a little apologies for the pathos. We invite you not to continue reading. We look from Qatar at the debates in Israel, and it seems so stupid and unnecessary at the moment. If we in Israel do not learn how to join forces, to truly be one people as much as possible - and sorry for this cliché: and we will continue To fight on the roads, and to confront in the elections - then our situation will not be good against these forces of hostility.

The knowledge that we are probably doomed to live on our sword does not make anyone happy.
The positive news for Shechnik is the call to "unite forces", and it is doubly important against the background of the wave of terrorism we experienced this week, and the assessment in the security establishment that it is expected to increase.
Shechnik testified that he hesitated before writing the words.
Acknowledging the intensity of the hatred that our enemies harbor for us is a brave step for him in the face of the political correctness of the left today, but it was not always like this.
Here is what, for example, one of the giants of the Israeli left - Berel Katznelson, said, in the midst of another wave of Palestinian terror, from the events of 1936: "At this time, we must not look for easy consolations, and not say: peace, peace and there is no peace, unless we see the The belt of blood, the alliance of enmity that surrounded us, to see it in all its wickedness, in all its dangers, and then maybe we will also find the strength to stand up to it."
Today, the left-wing camp is headed by Prime Minister Yair Lapid, who in this terror-stricken week chose to focus his speech precisely on the Netanyahu trial.
Raz Shechnik's brave words deserve brave leadership of his camp.
In the meantime, unfortunately, they are expected to plunge into the feminine abyss of the gap between Berel Katznelson and Yair Lapid.
