Atrocity in Ukraine: In recent days, media outlets in the country and abroad have revealed a host of new evidence of atrocities by a senior commander in the Russian army, including reports of the murder of an elderly woman, the torture of captives and the indiscriminate killing of civilians.
At the center of the affair is Colonel Sergey Spanov, the commander of the 27th mechanized rifle brigade, whose men took part in the fighting for the town of Izum in the Kharkiv region during the month of September.
In a recording released earlier this week by Ukraine's intelligence services, the commander can be heard describing how he stabbed to death an elderly Ukrainian woman who was called to his path, and then his deputy shot her to death.

The horrifying incident prompted the Russian opposition television channel "Dozhed" to conduct an investigation that included live interviews with Sepno's subordinates, who in turn revealed new gruesome details about the colonel's exploits.
The commanders, some of them officers themselves, claimed that the commander used to torture prisoners and watch as his men cut off the limbs of captured Ukrainian soldiers.
According to another claim, Spanov ordered to bury civilians who were killed in a mass grave.
In addition to allegations of atrocities, Spanov's soldiers described him as "always drunk" and claimed that he used to beat his officers, stay away from frontline areas and wait in a safe bunker while his soldiers were killed on the frontline.
"I am ready to fulfill my part and return to the front," said Sergeant Valentin Aruchkin, who is now recovering from his injury on the battlefield, in an interview with "Dozhed", "but not under the command of this man."
Meanwhile, the media in Ukraine reported finding a mass grave in Kherson district.
According to the reports, the mutilated bodies of six men and a 16-year-old girl were found in the village of Perbidna in the north of Kherson district, which was liberated from the Russian army about two weeks ago.
According to the claims, the seven victims were executed with their hands tied and their bodies thrown into a pit that was dug ahead of time.
