With the new year, numerous changes are coming to drivers – in a wide variety of areas.

Berlin - 2023 is not far away - and with the new year there will also be innovations for consumers.

Not only e-car drivers are affected, but also everyone who uses a combustion engine.

The most important changes for 2023 at a glance:

From 2023: Don't forget masks in the first aid kit

The grace period for the new regulations for first-aid kits in cars ends in January 2023.

From February 1st, there will be a fine if the first aid kit does not contain two medical masks.

The triangular cloth and the bandage cloth measuring forty by sixty centimeters no longer have to be included.

This is to ensure that all products still fit in the first aid kit.

Who will have to exchange their driver's license next year

In 2023 it will be the turn of drivers born between 1959 and 1964: They must exchange their paper driving license for the new EU uniform driving license in credit card format by January 19, 2023.

This is to ensure that all driving licenses still in circulation in the EU are given a uniform and forgery-proof model.

Planned increase in CO2 pricing will be postponed

The planned gradual annual increase in CO2 pricing (5 euros more per ton) at the turn of the year should actually have led to a further increase in the price of petrol and diesel.

As part of the third relief package, the federal government postponed this increase by one year.

49 euro ticket as an alternative?

The 49-euro ticket, which is valid throughout Germany, could be worthwhile, especially for professionals who use their car to get to work every day.

Whether the "Deutschlandticket", as it is officially called, is really more attractive for commuters than the car also depends on the quality of the train and bus connections on the way to work.

In addition, it is still unclear when exactly the saver ticket can come into force.

E-cars: Purchase bonus will be reduced, GHG bonus must be applied for

From 2023 a lot will change for potential buyers of electric cars: In order to receive the state purchase premium, you have to buy an electric car that is exclusively battery-electric or with a fuel cell.

Plug-in hybrids, on the other hand, no longer receive the premium.

There is also less money: From 2023, the subsidy will be 4,500 euros instead of the previous 6,000 euros for e-cars, which cost up to 40,000 euros net.

There are 3,000 euros for cars up to 65,000 euros net.

Then there is the subsidy from the manufacturer, which is half of the state e-car premium.

After all, there is still the annual GHG premium for e-car owners, which can bring in several hundred euros.

However, this must be applied for again in 2023.

In 2023 the pink TÜV badge will be on

The main inspection (HU) is due every two years.

Anyone who has a pink TÜV sticker on their vehicle must do so in 2023.

There are a total of six different colors on the badges, which are repeated every six years and indicate the year in which the general inspection must be carried out.

New classification for motor vehicle liability insurance

Around ten million motorists with pure vehicle liability insurance will be classified in 2023 in a higher regional class, for around 5.5 million it will be in a lower one.

As reported by the General Association of the German Insurance Industry (GDV), a higher regional class applies in 101 registration districts.

In 67 districts it will be lower next year.

The regional class remains the same for the remaining 244 districts and thus 26.8 million owners with motor vehicle liability insurance.

Due to a reorganization of the class limits, there are comparatively many changes in motor vehicle liability this time.

In general, the following applies: The better the classification in the regional class, the cheaper it is for the insurance premium, which is also determined by other parameters.

Every year, the GDV calculates the damage balance sheet for the more than 400 registration districts in Germany and divides them into regional classes.

The regional class depends on where the owner lives.

There are also regional classes for comprehensive policies – there are slightly fewer shifts from 2023 than in liability.

It doesn't matter whether it's liability or comprehensive insurance: You can find out which regional class your own district is in using the regional class query on the GDV portal.
