The National Comprehensive Care Service for Adults Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders of Ecuador (SNAI) reported this Thursday in a statement that Santiago Loza, director of the Center for Provisional Deprivation of Male Liberty of Pichincha Number 1 or also called El Inca prison, located in Quito, died after a "deadly attack".

"We repudiate this cowardly act committed in the midst of the transformation process that we have undertaken as an institution for the security and control of prisons," said the SNAI.

The director of the SNAI, Guillermo Rodríguez, repudiated the crime perpetrated against his partner, through a statement released by the government.

“This will not go unpunished, and the message will be forceful from us who make up the State, and when I say the State is not only from the government.

Today is the time for the whole world to align, today is the time to think about what we want for our country.

Do we want a country bowed down to crime, to drug trafficking, to violence?” Rodríguez said.

Santiago Loza was assassinated in the Avenida Simón Bolívar sector in Quito when he was going in a vehicle to work at the El Inca prison, as confirmed by the SNAI to CNN.

On November 18, the SNAI reported that 10 inmates died after clashes between criminal gangs in the El Inca prison.

After these events, three leaders of criminal groups were transferred to a maximum security prison, called La Roca, in the city of Guayaquil.

The crime against Loza occurs after the government incorporated 1,360 more prison servers on Monday to face the prison crisis that Ecuador has experienced in recent years, and which since December 2020 has left more than 400 inmates murdered inside prisons, according to official figures.
