The WGV Quartzbichl operates a regional gift market.

Waste management consultant Ursula Mackensen explains how this came about.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – Items that are not used are not immediately useless.

While some would like to throw their ergometer on the bulky waste, others may wish for exactly such a home trainer.

Bringing these two people together is the task of the Quartzbichl Recycling and Marketing Company (WGV).

The gift market has recently been added to their homepage.

WGV gift market: give old things a new life for free

Waste management consultant Ursula Mackensen explains how this came about.

"Every time I walked past the bulky waste container, my heart bled.

There were so many things in there that are actually too good to throw away.” The WGV then started the project – a district-wide platform for unused but still usable items, a “regional eBay classifieds” so to speak.

Behind this, of course, lies the aspect of sustainability.

“The less that is thrown away, the less that has to be produced first.

Giving away saves resources and energy – and protects the climate.”

Free and intact things find a new home

The procedure is simple: the owner uses a form to put pictures of the item online with a description free of charge.

Then you have to “wait for someone to pick it up,” explains Mackensen.

If you find something you would like, you can contact the owner and pick it up at his home.

Around 20 things - from ergometers to corner sofas - are currently on offer, all free of charge and fully functional (a condition for using the portal).

Mackensen has two tips for those who are interested: “Especially around Christmas, a lot of good things come in.

But: The best is gone in no time.

If you find something, you should be quick.”
