The Nuremberg Christ Child traveled to the USA to open the Christmas markets in Philadelphia and Baltimore - a special experience for Benigna Munsi.

Nuremberg – The famous Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt started on November 25th after a two-year Corona break.

The US copy in Chicago had started a week earlier.

Nuremberg Christkind opens Christmas markets in the USA

More Christmas markets have now been opened in the USA – with a celebration by the Nuremberg Christkind himself.

"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, people of all ages ..." With the famous prologue in English, the Nuremberg Christ Child of 2019 and 2020, Benigna Munsi, opened the Christmas markets in Philadelphia and Baltimore, as did the city of Nuremberg in in a press release on November 30.

Last year, the traditional trip had to be canceled due to the pandemic.

Benigna Munsi has now traveled to the USA for the first time as an ambassador for the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt.

Nuremberg Christkind opens "Christmas Village" in Baltimore - Gingy's reception

On Saturday (November 26) she opened the "Christmas Village" in Baltimore.

The German American Marketing Inc. Christmas market took place for the ninth time.

The Nuremberg Christ Child came to the Christmas market by water: He made a tour of the harbor basin on a ship.

"Also on board were six members of the Raven's Tent Band, who performed 'Silent Night, Holy Night' as the ship docked at the pier, watched by countless onlookers."

The Nuremberg Christkind was welcomed there by Gingy, a popular US Christmas character.

Together with the larger-than-life gingerbread man and the band, the Christ Child walked along the promenade before being driven in a Christmassy decorated electric car by the harbor police to the center of the Christmas Village - the mulled wine pyramid, "which is one of the highlights of the market", so the city of Nuremberg.

Nuremberg Christkind in America: photos, autographs and sweets

The actual opening took place in front of hundreds of visitors in a large tent.

After the prologue, the Nuremberg Christkind cut a symbolic ribbon and thus officially opened the Christmas village to the guests.

Visitors then had the opportunity to talk to the Christ Child and take photos.

Autographs with a personal dedication were written and sweets were given away.

"Since I was unfortunately not always able to have direct contact with people during my actual term of office due to the pandemic, I particularly enjoyed it.

To get into conversation with small and big Christmas fans and to make them happy with little things like a photo or a piece of candy.

And the trip on the ship and with the great band was really an experience,” said Benigna Munsi afterwards.

On Monday (November 28), the 20-year-old opened the "Christmas Village" in Philadelphia.

The Christmas village there has continued to grow in recent years.

At the 15th edition there are well over 100 booths.
