The Director General of International Peace and Security Affairs at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Assadollah Eshraq Jahromi, condemned the US sanctions regime for violating the Bacterial Weapons Treaty.
Jahromi said in a speech during the ninth conference to review the Bacterial Weapons Treaty currently being held in Geneva: “The US sanctions regime is illegal and illegitimate and is considered a violation of the Bacterial Weapons Treaty, especially in the context of the Corona epidemic, because it prevents countries from cooperating under Article 10 of the treaty in dealing with With bacterial threats,” declaring his country’s support for the goals of the treaty and its commitment to its provisions as the first treaty that completely prohibits any possession of bacterial weapons for its members.
Jahromi added, “America’s opposition to the protocol to enhance implementation and commitment to the treaty has seriously damaged its goals, and it is necessary for it to abandon its policy towards it and join other countries in this regard,” calling on the international community to take urgent measures to globalize the treaty and force the Zionist entity to join disarmament treaties. immediately.
The ninth conference of the Bacterial Weapons Treaty will be held in Geneva for three weeks, and it will discuss ways to strengthen the treaty banning toxic, biological and bacteriological weapons, in addition to commitments to ban any possession, production and stockpiling of microbial weapons, and the commitment to cooperation in the field of biological technologies.
