Jiang Zemin, the former president of the country and former general secretary of the Communist Party of China, passed away on Wednesday (November 30) at the age of 96.
The Liaison Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China set up a coffin for all walks of life to express their condolences.
Tan Huizhu, deputy director of the Basic Law Committee, attended the funeral this morning (2nd) and praised Jiang Zemin for his amiability, rich experience, and research on foreign culture and art.
Tan Huizhu said: "I miss him very much. I served two terms in the National People's Congress. (Jiang Zemin) came to Hong Kong every year. (He) is very familiar with the situation in Hong Kong. He is a blend of Chinese and Western. He has a lot of experience and has researched foreign culture and art. Talkative, communicative, affable...although we only talk about meeting time."
Chen Zhenbin, the current member of the Hong Kong People's Congress, believes that every Hong Kong citizen will miss Jiang Zemin: "(He) especially supports Hong Kong's return, which is a historic moment, so I understand that so many people sent flowers to mourn in two days." He also pointed out, Jiang Zemin laid a solid foundation for China's reform, opening up and modernization.
