Suspicious packages containing bleeding animal organs were sent to Ukrainian embassies in several European cities - this is what the spokesman for the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Nikolenko, said today (Friday).

"We are examining the meaning of this message," he wrote in his message.

Ukraine implied that Russia or its supporters were behind the acts.

The spokesperson noted that the embassies to which such packages were sent are the embassies in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia, Italy, and Austria.

At the same time as his announcement, the Ukrainian consulate in Brno, a city in the south-east of the Czech Republic, was evacuated today after receiving a suspicious package containing animal tissues.

Nikolenko also announced that the entrance to the ambassador's residence in Vatkin was vandalized, and that the Ukrainian embassy in Kazakhstan received a report of a bomb threat, which later turned out to be unverified.

In another event, the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States received a letter with a photo of a critical article about Ukraine.

According to Nikolenko, most of the envelopes were sent from within Europe.

These cases join the case that happened two days ago, in which an envelope received at the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid exploded and injured a Ukrainian employee of the place.

The same envelope is addressed to the ambassador of Ukraine in Spain.

Following the incidents, Ukraine began to secure all of its embassies.

"We have reason to believe that there is a well-planned campaign of terror and intimidation by the embassies and consulates of Ukraine," said the country's Foreign Minister Dmytro Koleva.

"Since they fail to stop us on the diplomatic front, they are trying to scare us," he added.

He urged foreign governments to ensure maximum protection of Ukrainian diplomatic institutions.
