Pedro Castillo faces third presidential vacancy motion 5:17
(CNN Spanish) ––
The plenary session of the Peruvian Congress admitted the vacancy motion against President Pedro Castillo for processing this Thursday.
Seventy-three congressmen voted in favor, 32 against, and six abstained.
During the session it was also approved to invite the president to exercise his defense on December 7, the day on which the document will also be put to a vote.
Earlier, Castillo criticized those who promoted the vacancy motion.
"Since the first day we are here, a group has been heard saying: 'Vacancy, vacancy, accusation, incapable, suspension, resignation,'" he said from Lima during a meeting with the roderos sector of the country.
“They haven't heard once from the mouth of the president that he comes out and says: 'I'm going to close this Congress.'
According to the regulations of the Congress, 87 votes are required to declare the vacancy of the Presidency of the Republic.

The vacancy motion, which seeks to remove the president from power, is the third that Castillo has faced in his administration.
It has more than 100 pages that seek to support the reasons why the proponents consider that the president has incurred "permanent moral incapacity."
Among them are the investigations opened by the Prosecutor's Office for the alleged acts of corruption denounced during his government.
Also this Thursday and before the session, the OAS had called for "a truce" between the Executive and Legislative Branches in the midst of this attempt to remove Castillo from power.
