The Federal Judicial Council of Mexico rejected the request for house arrest of former attorney Jesús Murillo Karam and determined that he remain detained in the medical tower of the Tepepan detention center until his health is fully restored after undergo surgery, the judicial entity confirmed to CNN this Friday after finishing the hearing for the request for precautionary measures.
The defense of the ex-prosecutor and his relatives announced that they will appeal the resolution.
They argue that the fact that Murillo Karam remains in the prison's medical tower shows that his state of health is "reserved and requires treatment."
Murillo Karam was Attorney General of Mexico during the presidency of Enrique Peña Nieto, and led the investigation into the disappearance of the 43 students from the Ayotzinapa normal school, which occurred on September 26, 2014.
