A few days after Sven Mislintat left, VfB Stuttgart presented a new sporting director.

Fabian Wohlgemuth comes from SC Paderborn.

A big task awaits the new man.

Stuttgart – The first of two major personnel decisions at VfB Stuttgart has been made.

The coaching question remains unanswered for the time being, but the Bundesliga club has found a new sports director in Fabian Wohlgemuth.

A few days after his predecessor Sven Mislintat left, his new club announced the 43-year-old's signing on Saturday.

Most recently, Wohlgemuth, who signed a contract until June 30, 2025, worked as Managing Director Sport at the second division club SC Paderborn.

Stuttgart's CEO Alexander Wehrle has recently repeatedly emphasized that he does not want to be rushed when making the decision.

However, a quick solution was already indicated on Friday after SCP President Thomas Sagel had confirmed a call from Stuttgart.

According to “Kicker” information, there is a fee of around 600,000 euros in the room.

"With the new appointment to the position of sports director, we want to set both a new impetus and a sign of continuity on our way," said Wehrle.

“Fabian Wohlgemuth fits our profile perfectly.

He has proven that he can put together a valuable squad that plays attacking, passionate football with manageable means."

Wehrle also appreciates that Wohlgemuth has experience in the youth field.

Born in Berlin, he worked as a youth scout at Hamburger SV and later headed the youth department at VfL Wolfsburg before moving to Holstein Kiel.

In Paderborn, together with coaches Steffen Baumgart and Lukas Kwasniok, he formed a team that is now again one of the promotion candidates in the 2nd Bundesliga.

"He did a very good job in Paderborn and had a strong influence on the sporting development of our club," said Sagel.

“The sporting results and the quality of the squad have continuously improved.

It is part of our club's DNA to enable players and employees to take the next step in their careers.

Also because the move to VfB was rewarded accordingly, we part with a good feeling.”

And with a good feeling, Wohlgemuth also tackles the new task at 16th in the table.

"VfB has set sporting standards in German football history," he said.

"It's a vibrant club with a great fan culture, an exciting squad and incredible potential."

For Wohlgemuth it is now a question of making an important decision.

Because the trainer's question should also be answered by the start of training on December 12th.

Michael Wimmer's promotion from interim coach to head coach has become less likely after Mislintat's exit.

According to media reports, the top candidate should be Bruno Labbadia, who worked for VfB between 2010 and 2013.

"If that's true, that would of course not be an innovative solution," ex-national player Kevin Kuranyi told the German Press Agency on Friday.

"But if he wins six games in a row, then it was the right choice." After Wohlgemuth's commitment, VfB can now take the next step.
