Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian discussed, in a phone call with European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, the latest developments in the Vienna negotiations to lift the embargo on Iran and cooperation between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The Iranian news agency, IRNA, quoted Abdollahian as saying during the call: “The recent impolite and non-diplomatic statements of some European ministers show that some extremist politicians hide themselves behind the European Union,” stressing that “accordingly, the strategic goals of the Union fell victim to the aspirations of extremist groups. And even terrorists who provide false information to these politicians.”
For his part, Borrell referred to the efforts being made to return all parties to their commitments in the Vienna negotiations, stressing that he would continue efforts and contacts to reach a final agreement.
Despite many rounds of negotiations in the Austrian capital Vienna over the past months between Iran and the international community on returning to the nuclear agreement, the negotiations did not lead to tangible results due to the intransigent positions of the United States and its Western allies against lifting the unjust embargo imposed on Iran.
