The Joint Sections of the Court of Auditors suspended the judgment for equalization of the Region's financial statements for 2020, contesting numerous irregularities in the income statement and balance sheet as well as the administration result and decided to raise the question of constitutional legitimacy of the deficit settlement of 2.2 billion which had been spread over ten financial years while for the judges it had to be done in three years.
The Schifani government, in essence, should already set aside 866 million euros in the next budget pending the pronouncement of the Consulta.
The councilor for the economy, Marco Falcone, however, excludes him at the moment: "We will deal immediately with the Meloni government, an interpretative rule is enough that agrees with the Sicilian Region and that makes the reason for the dispute lapse".
The pronouncement of the judges is heavier than the request made by the Prosecutor of the Court of Auditors, which had proposed the go-ahead for the 2020 consolidated budget without the parts concerning the settlement of the deficit, the income statement and the balance sheet as well as about thirty of disputed accounting entries in the chapters of income, expenditure and residual assets and liabilities.
The most consistent game concerns the deficit.
For the judges, the Region had to spread the deficit over three years and not ten, as it did, for two reasons: it could not be done with a legislative decree but a law was needed and in any case the provision was made before the same was approved legislative decree.
On the matter the ball passes to the Constitutional Court.
