Tomorrow, the Ministry of Health will launch an oral vaccination campaign against cholera, targeting all ages over the year in the countryside of Aleppo, Hasakah, Raqqa and Deir Ezzor, and it will continue until the 15th of this month.
According to the Director of Primary Health Care at the Ministry, Dr. Razan Tarabishi, the campaign is being implemented through 63 health centers, 685 mobile teams, and with the participation of 2,269 health workers, stressing that all preparations for launching the campaign have been completed.
Dr. Al-Tarabishi explained that the vaccine is safe, approved and has been used successfully all over the world and has proven effective, noting that people who cannot receive the vaccine are pregnant and lactating women and those with a severe disease.
Dr. Tarabishi confirmed that the epidemiological situation of the disease is under control and in a phase of decreasing, and the basis for disease prevention remains the use of water, eating food from a safe source, in addition to adhering to public health behaviors, especially hand washing.
According to Dr. Tarabishi, the vaccine protects against severe infection with cholera by stimulating the intestinal immune response, and it cannot cause cholera because it consists of inactivated bacterial cells, pointing out that some side effects can appear during the first days of receiving the vaccine and go away on their own from them ( Headache, fever, gastrointestinal disturbances).
It is noteworthy that the cumulative total number of confirmed cholera infections in Syria reached 1556 until the 29th of last month, and the number of deaths reached 49.
