The head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, announced the commencement of construction of the first phase of the Karun Nuclear Power Plant near the Karun River in the city of Darkhvin in Khuzestan Province, southwest of the country, to supply electricity to neighboring provinces.
Islami said in a statement today: “Because of the non-commitment of the foreign partners to build this station, today, by making maximum use of the internal capabilities, the construction of the first part of the first phase of the station, which will operate with pressurized light water, has begun today to produce 300 megawatts of electricity.”
Islami explained that the Iranian government is moving quickly towards producing clean energy and cheap fuel, through the development of nuclear power plants, which is one of the most important tasks on the list of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, pointing out that the share of nuclear energy in the country's power plants should reach 20 percent. percent.
Islami pointed out that the development of areas to benefit from nuclear radiation is also one of the important goals and topics of interest to the organization.
