As in the last ranking, first place goes to Upper Bavaria.

The Contor-Regio-Analysis examined 897 small German towns with populations between 10,000 and 20,000 people.

First of all, the factors that make towns and communities attractive for families were considered.

The following points were included in the rating of the “most family-friendly small town”:

  • Growing population

  • Highest possible proportion of young people/ High birth rate

  • Sufficient transport infrastructure (close to the motorway, good ICE connection)

  • Sufficient free and above all affordable living space

  • The lowest possible school drop-out rate among children and young people

  • “Some prosperity” of the city and low unemployment rate

"Every fifth resident in the town is younger than 20 years, the unemployment rate is just over one percent, the number of existing and also newly built apartments is well above the German average," summarizes

Kommunal

the assessment.
