After a blockage of the ring road on Thursday in Lyon, 9 activists from the climate emergency awareness collective blocked the rue de Rivoli in Paris on Saturday afternoon.

Brandishing a sign, the activists sat down in the middle of the busy street in the capital's 1st arrondissement.

The blockage notably prevented several buses, a means of public transport yet encouraged by climate defenders – from circulating for less than an hour, until the arrival of the police.

After forcing the group to move to the roadside and restoring traffic, the police took the activists into custody.

On Twitter, the movement explained its approach, which occurs in reaction to the law adopted Friday by the National Assembly tripling the penalties against squatters.
