A year ago, the market town council of Peißenberg decided to hire a government-sponsored climate protection manager in the town hall.

The position is now filled.

Peißenberg – Efficient climate protection has now more or less become a mandatory task for local authorities.

In terms of content, however, the topic cannot always be classified in the classic administrative departments.

Also, projects should not only be processed on the side, climate protection is too important for that.

The market council therefore decided to create a staff position for "climate protection and sustainability management" in the town hall.

Appropriate funding has been requested from the Federal Ministry of Economics for this purpose.

“We hoped and feared that the start would work.

The approval notice finally came at the end of October,” reported Mayor Frank Zellner at the most recent meeting of the Energy and Climate Committee.

The new climate manager had already taken a seat next to the head of the town hall.

For Matthias Tengler (born 1984), the committee meeting was the first official appearance in his function as head of the department.

Tengler had already prevailed in a selection process some time ago.

But the native of Hanover was only able to get started in the town hall once the funding decision had been presented.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter. And here is the Schongau newsletter.)

Climate protection manager had previously worked in a mechanical engineering company

Among other things, Tengler worked for a mechanical engineering company for twelve years.

But at some point he had conflicts of conscience, as he explained at the committee meeting: "My environmental awareness has grown." The desire arose to get involved in the subject area - and on a larger scale: "I wanted to be involved in something that not only limited to reducing the personal footprint.” The job advertisement in Peißenberg came at just the right time.

"I'm a newcomer to the community stage," said Tengler modestly at his introduction.

He hopes for leniency if he still makes mistakes in the formal processes.

Tengler moved to Issing near Landsberg seven years ago.

An acquaintance from Peißenberg has already taken him through the market town.

"There are many beautiful areas here away from the through road," Tengler explains to the local newspaper.

He describes himself as a “mountain enthusiast”, which is why he can often be found on the Neue Bergehalde during his lunch break: “A lunchtime walk on the heap and then enjoy the view of the Zugspitze.

There is something."

Main task in the coming months: A concept for climate protection

Tengler's main task in the coming months will be to create an integrated climate protection concept.

According to the funding conditions of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, a first draft version must be submitted within one year.

The concept should contain, among other things, an energy and greenhouse balance as well as a potential analysis.

In addition, reduction targets and a concrete catalog of measures must be formulated.
