At the citizens' meeting, it became clear what the Schleissheimers were dealing with.

Among them, of course, traffic - and pigeons.

Oberschleißheim - industrial area, traffic and ecology - these three major topics dominated the Oberschleißheim citizens' meeting.

"Living" was dropped this year after Mayor Markus Böck (CSU) had outlined the positive developments in Mittenheim and Frauenfeld (see box).

It is more important for people to preserve a piece of their quality of life.

After the intensive debates about the commercial area, the St. Hubertusstraße as a feeder and the Veterinärstraße, which, as Böck again promised, should only temporarily lose part of the historic avenue, the matter is by no means off the table for everyone in Oberschleißheim.

Friederike Forster fears sneak traffic in the residential areas above the B 471 and that Veterinärstraße could be misused as an access road for businesses.

The mayor combined Böck's urgent appeal "not to close oneself off from the commercial area", since the municipality would not be able to cope with the burden of work without fresh money, with a reference to the local bypass that had been required since time immemorial and the plan to use the commercial area from accessible from the west.

In fact, the mayor's hands are tied.

For years nothing has happened in terms of the western bypass.

Böck is pinning his hopes on an appointment with Bavaria's Minister of Transport, Christian Bernreiter.

"One should leave the church in the village."

This also applies to the underpass, which has also been awaited for years.

The fact that Friederike Forster justified her criticism of the commercial area with threatened breeding grounds for lapwings and skylarks went too far for many in the audience.

Anton Regensperger (“no matter what you plan to do, you always come across critters somewhere”) asked the previous speaker not to put the needs of the community and its residents on the back burner.

"With all love," shouted Regensperger to erupting applause: "One should leave the church in the village."

Mariana Levermann also used the opportunity to be heard publicly to draw attention to another "old" topic that is close to the hearts of many people in Oberschleißheim.

For them, the quality of life in the town is suffering from the often lamented dying of shops, for example in Mittenheimer Straße.

Levermann received applause for her call for a trade officer.

Even Helmut Halbig's pigeon theme had been dealt with in Oberschleißheim in the past.

Misguided animal lovers apparently ensure that the birds feel at home in the Ertlsiedlung.

Halbig is left behind.

The pigeons relieve themselves on the expensively purchased photovoltaic system.

Protected from wind and weather, they hatch their offspring underneath.

The birds are too smart for pigeon brushes made of stainless steel.

Halbig feeds himself, as he says: "But in the aviary!"

The mayor expressed understanding.

Böck knows about complaints from the whole community.

A specialist from the Environment Agency should help scare away the pigeons.

Anyone who is caught feeding can also face a hefty fine.

A municipal ordinance prohibits feeding pigeons on public property.

"That attracts rats and mice," warned Helmut Halbig.
