Dr. Carlos del Río, an epidemiologist and professor at Emory University, emphasized that despite scientific advances, "there is currently no cure" for people infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
He clarified, however, that there are "treatments that can control viral replication and can keep the person in a healthy state, but we still don't have a cure."
