Samira Tayebi, first PS deputy to the mayor of Clichy-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis), was elected mayor of the town on Saturday and succeeds Olivier Klein (DVG), appointed last July Minister Delegate for the City and the Lodging.

His first assistant delegate for finance and general affairs Samira Bouhout Tayebi has since managed the daily life of this city of more than 28,000 inhabitants, credited by INSEE with a poverty rate of 42% in 2019.

It was from this city that the French suburbs were set ablaze in 2005 after the death of two teenagers, Zyed Benna and Bouna Traoré, electrocuted in an electrical transformer while trying to escape the police.

Samira Tayebi was elected by 30 votes out of 31 during a municipal council, which elected Olivier Klein as first deputy.

"

This city, I owe it a lot and I have never been so proud as today to be a child of Clichy-sous-Bois

", declared the new city councilor, first female mayor since 1947, "

I am aware of all that we still have to achieve together

".

Olivier Klein hailed "

his love of the city, his great humanity, his team spirit

".

I know who you are, what your beliefs are and I trust you

,” he told her.

The Minister took the opportunity to return to some "

modest pride

" accomplished during his sixteen years as deputy and eleven years as mayor: "

having brought you together in our diversity

", "

a city that is changing its face while keeping his soul

" or an "

ambitious cultural policy

".

The new mayor, a school teacher for twenty-seven years in Clichy-sous-Bois, grew up in the city.
