How many times have you had the chance to see a car with a disabled tag parked in a disabled parking lot, and a young man or woman get out of it completely healthy?

The phenomenon of abuse of the disabled label by those who are not entitled to it is increasing as the number of disabled vehicles increases.

According to the data of the Ministry of Transport, there are about 350 thousand people in Israel who are entitled to a disabled card.

Because one tag can be associated with two different cars used by the disabled, there are actually more than 470,000 cars in Israel that carry the tag, which is intended to make it easier for people with limited mobility to maintain their daily lives.

The law also allows the disabled's family members to drive their car, but prohibits them from parking in a disabled parking lot if the ticket holder is not in the car.

Despite this, the Ministry of Transport and the police do not enforce misuse of the disabled label.

Today, the world and in Israel celebrate Equal Rights Day for people with disabilities.

In this framework, the Israel Accessibility Association, in collaboration with the Leo Burnett advertising agency, produced a film designed to put an end to a phenomenon that seriously harms the availability of disabled parking spaces.

Accessibility Israel: "This is a criminal offense which, unfortunately, is not enforced"

Yuval Wagner, chairman of Accessibility Israel, told Walla! News that "as of the end of 2022, the availability of disabled parking is extremely difficult and makes everyday life very difficult for people with disabilities who need disabled parking.

One of the main reasons that there are no handicapped parking spaces available is that the family members of those entitled to a handicapped permit park and occupy handicapped shops."

According to Wagner, "This is a criminal offense that, unfortunately, is not enforced.

In my humble opinion, those entitled to a disabled ticket have a side in the matter and it is our duty to act so that our family members do not use our car and do not park in handicapped parking.

It is not possible that the family members who understand the importance of handicapped parking are the ones who park in handicapped parking and harm the availability of handicapped parking for other eligible persons."
