The association of small animal breeders wants to ensure that the animals in the aviary are cared for in the long term.

He is urgently looking for reliable volunteers.

Geretsried – The small animal breeders' association is urgently looking for volunteers who can reliably help out in the aviary.

"Vogelmama" Ingrid Brauner published an urgent call for help in the current Geltinger Tierheim-Magazine.

"Vogelhaus Geretsried in Not" she writes in it.

The future of the popular meeting point for walkers and families in the city forest is uncertain.

"Bird Mama" wants to continue "as long as I can"

Planning for the extension of the Adalbert-Stifter middle school is underway in the town hall in Geretsried.

In order to be able to create an efficient structure, it is necessary to move the birdhouse permanently.

The commissioned architect announced this a long time ago.

The city would support the small animal breeders' association in finding an alternative location and also assume the costs, reports Brauner gratefully.

However, the question arises as to whether someone can take care of the birds in the long term.

"If the city invests so much money, it should be ensured that there are one or more successors and helpers," stresses Brauner.

The Geretsriederin has been taking care of the aviary for 30 years.

"I'll keep going as long as I can," assures the 68-year-old.

She could still use support.

And maybe someone would familiarize themselves with it in such a way that they could eventually take over the whole thing.

Around 100 birds live in the aviaries.

From cockatiels to canaries to pygmy parrots.

Brauner checks on them every day, changes the water and tops up the food.

"Every now and then I have to pick up a dead bird," says Brauner.

That is also part of it.

It takes more time on weekends.

"Clean up, change the sand, distribute fresh branches," the 68-year-old lists.

Members “grown old with the club”

A teenager is currently helping her.

He always lends a hand at the weekend and is very diligent, says Brauner.

However, she fears that he will run out of time once he finishes school.

A woman helped her for a while.

But "that didn't fit between people".

And other volunteers are now bound by their families.

The association itself has now shrunk to five members who “have grown old with the association”.

The association can finance food and veterinary bills through donations.

Animals whose owners have died or can no longer look after them find shelter in the aviary.

There are also "divorced children" and unfortunately birds that have been bought thoughtlessly.

Brauner also offers holiday care.

In the past she nursed forest birds and released them into the wild.

But "I can't do that anymore".

Brauner's wish would be that the birdhouse can stay close to the current location.

If no suitable place can be found or if the care of the animals cannot be secured, she hopes that the surrounding animal shelters will take care of the birds.

You are very important to her.

"I actually always wanted creatures that I could pet," remembers the Geretsried native with a laugh.

She came to the aviary through her mother.

"Everything about birds fascinates me," enthuses the 68-year-old.

For example the colors of the plumage.

Brauner: "There is no painter who would do it so beautifully."

The Story of the Bird House

The aviary (photo: sh) has not been at the school center from the beginning.

The small animal breeders' association established its predecessor in 1954 under the direction of the founding father Albert Korndörfer on St.-Hubertus-Straße.

When the small aviary was in need of renovation after 35 years, the new building was built on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße, also because the birds had been too loud for the neighbors.

The birdhouse has been caring for birdies of all kinds for 30 years now.

The purpose of the small animal breeders' association was originally also the breeding of rabbits and their exhibition.

Both have not existed in Geretsried for a long time.

Ingrid Brauner, who came to the small animal breeders through her mother, the founder of the association Gisela Meierl, does not breed birds either.

"With me, everyone can get together with the partner they like."
