On February 12, the elections to the House of Representatives and the district parliaments will be repeated.

A number of candidates are no longer there.

Even a party is no longer on the ballot paper.

Berlin - When the elections to the House of Representatives and the district parliaments are repeated on February 12, the animal protection party is no longer on the ballot papers.

According to the state election management, a total of 25 candidates from various parties who ran for the election in September 2021 were removed from the lists at the meeting of the state election committee on Friday.

In most cases, the reason is that they no longer have their headquarters in Berlin.

The party started in 2021 with three candidates, none of whom can be found on the ballot papers in the repeat election.

Should further candidates be removed from the state list, these changes could no longer be taken into account on the ballot papers due to the timetable.

Instead, the notices in the polling stations must be pointed out, as the deputy state returning officer Roland Brumberg explained.

The new state returning officer Stephan Bröchler appealed to the people of Berlin to take part in the repeat election.

“Please go vote on February 12th.

A high turnout strengthens our parliament and thus democracy,” said the administrative scientist, who has only been in office since October.

"We simply have to explain a lot in this election," said Bröchler.

For this reason, the state returning authority is planning to answer the most important questions about the repeat election on its homepage.

Bröchler expressed his satisfaction with the preparations so far, but at the same time drew attention to certain hurdles, such as the organization of the polling stations, for which the districts are responsible.

According to him, in addition to public facilities, private premises are also rented.

Among other things, negotiations were underway with the owners of the Velodrom on Landsberger Allee.

“It is important that the costs are reimbursed to the districts.

Hence the high sum of 39 million euros to be able to rent such locations or restaurants.”

Conducting democratic elections is not rocket science, but it is a complex process in which one gear has to mesh with the other.

"It is a Herculean task to organize the repetition of the elections for the 19th Berlin House of Representatives and for the twelve Berlin district assemblies within 90 days by February 12, 2023."

The September 2021 elections will be repeated on February 12, 2023 due to numerous glitches and organizational shortcomings.

The state constitutional court had decided in mid-November.

The documents for the postal vote will be sent out from January 2nd.
