Grafing has a new honorary citizen: former mayor Alois Kleinmaier (90).
The city council's decision caused a stir.
There is talk of an "unworthy" discussion.
Grafing
– Adalbert Mischlewski (103), father of the town twinning with the French St. Marcellin, is an honorary citizen of Grafing, Hermann Huber, ambassador in Prague when the Wall fell, was until his death a few years ago.
Now a new honorary citizen has been added: former mayor Alois Kleinmaier was awarded the honorary title by decision of the city council.
Kleinmaier, who ran the town from 1972 to 1996, will be presented with the certificate on December 16th.
The city said so.
Application came from Mayor Bauer - tight decision
What they are concealing are the circumstances of the decision in a closed session on October 4, which participants described to EZ as "unworthy" of the person being honored.
The application to make Kleinmaier an honorary citizen only just went through.
Mayor Christian Bauer (CSU) had put him there.
As city councilors reported to the Ebersberger Zeitung, the discussion did not revolve around Kleinmaier's services to the city, which would be recognized across the parliamentary groups.
Rather, the question that some of the participants in the meeting asked themselves was: is it enough to have been mayor of the city for many years in order to then become an honorary citizen?
Could there even be an automatism that was actually not wanted, based on the formula: mayor – former mayor – honorary citizen?

The city had reportedly offered Kleinmaier a celebration in the town hall, but that was too much fuss for the new honorary citizen (90).
He receives the certificate at home in a small circle.
