An earthquake measuring 4.6 was recorded by Ingv at 8.12 at a depth of 3 km in the Aeolian sea, south of Vulcano.
The shock was felt by people throughout the province of Messina and in the capital.
No damage is reported.
At 8.18 another shock was recorded off the coast of the Aeolian Islands with a magnitude of 2.
A portion of the ridge due to the shock would have collapsed in Lipari, in the locality of Valle Muria.
The tremors in the Aeolian Islands were preceded and followed by two other earthquakes in the southern Tyrrhenian Sea, between the islands and Calabria, with magnitudes of 2.6 and 2.9.
Following the seismic event, the Italy Situation Room of the Civil Protection Department got in touch with the local structures of the National Civil Protection Service.
From the first checks carried out, the event - with its epicenter located on the island of Vulcano - was felt by the population, but no damage was reported.
