As-Suwayda - SANA

Osama Mahmoud Hilal, from As-Suwayda Governorate, presents a model of giving and insisting on challenging disability by holding on to the weapon of knowledge, to illuminate his life path and to employ what he learned in the service of members of his community.

Hilal, 38, in an interview with SANA reporter, tells how he overcame his physical disability in the extremities, which has accompanied him since childhood, and succeeded in learning in all educational stages, defying the most difficult conditions until he obtained a university degree in Arabic from the Second Faculty of Arts in Suweida in 2010, based on his love for the language that is the source of our identity.

According to Hilal, who is currently an employee in the Education Directorate, he volunteered to teach Arabic at the Syrian Association for the Physically Handicapped years ago. After graduating from the university, he also worked on designing an electronic program via “Power Point” consisting of 1,200 slides, in which he collected linguistic benefits for grammar, poetic lines, rhetoric, and presentations commensurate with Students of all ages, with the aim of simplifying understanding of the material and facilitating the explanation process, because he has a slow writing process due to his disability.

Hilal not only taught the Arabic language to people with disabilities, but also taught it to many healthy people through special lessons for them, in parallel, as he mentioned, with developing his skills in the field of computers and programs in order to employ them to serve the purposes of education.

Hilal considers that disability does not stand in the way of anyone's ambition, and many can make it a state of excellence and create new horizons for themselves to adapt to their health condition, expressing his willingness to present his experience to others, to benefit from it, and his desire to benefit the largest number of students from what he has in the field of the Arabic language.

According to the head of the Administrative Committee of the Syrian Association for the Physically Handicapped in As-Suwayda, Nizar Shuja, Osama represents a living model for integrating people with disabilities into society.
