The country's attorney general announced the apparent cancellation of the body entrusted with the enforcement of moral laws in the Islamic Republic • In addition, the Ministry of Justice and the Parliament announced that they would review the law mandating the wearing of the hijab

Report: Iran cancels the modesty vigil after two months of public struggle and widespread protest.

Iran has announced the apparent abolition of the Chastity Police, the body entrusted with enforcing the Islamic Republic's strict moral laws, after months of widespread civil protest against religious oppression in the country.

In a speech at an important religious conference in the city of Qom, the country's Attorney General, Muhammad Munatzari, announced the apparent dissolution of the body and said: "The Modesty Police have nothing to do with the Ministry of Justice."

The Modesty Police was established in 2006 under the presidency of the extreme conservative Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with the aim of "guiding the public in spreading the culture of modesty and wearing the hijab".

This is the second victory in a day for the protest movement in the country.

The Iranian Ministry of Justice announced yesterday for the first time since the establishment of the Islamic Republic that the Ministry and the Parliament will jointly examine the law requiring the wearing of the hijab and it is possible that it will be changed.

The state news agency "Isna" quoted Munatzari, who referred to the legislation during a speech in the city of Qom.

"The issue has been handed over to the culture committee of the parliament and will also be examined by the Ministry of Justice and we will see the results of the discussion in a week or two," Munatzari said in reference to the legislation that is at the center of the huge and civil protests in the country, which began following the killing of Mahasa Amini, a young Kurdish woman in the capital Tehran, after she passed About the hijab laws.

The president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, also implicitly referred to the change in the legislation and said: "The Islamic foundations of the Islamic Republic are deep-rooted and fortified, but there are methods for implementing our constitution that are flexible and allow room for action."

It will be recalled that the struggle began after the death of Mahsha Amini for an alleged violation of the country's strict female dress code.

"The morality police have nothing to do with the judicial system and they have been abolished," Attorney General Mohammad Jaafar Montazeri was quoted as saying by the ISNA news agency.

Amini's death occurred in September when she arrived with her family in Tehran and was arrested after not wearing a head covering properly, according to the "Modesty Police".

The event led to widespread protests, especially in Iran
