From a preliminary investigation it appears that the goods were intended for marketing in the Jerusalem area.

Inspectors of the Central Enforcement and Investigations Unit (PISUH) at the Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs located and thwarted the sale of 50 cartons of strawberries, weighing a total of about 200 kilograms, that were smuggled out of Gaza.

They were caught in the passage of the tunnels that surround Jerusalem.

All the goods found were transferred for destruction according to a doctor's order.

The Ministry of Agriculture is putting a lot of effort into eradicating the phenomenon of the smuggling of agricultural produce from Gaza, and strawberries in particular during the winter.

In this case, an attempt to smuggle and market approximately 200 kg of strawberries originating in the Gaza Strip was thwarted. The goods, which were visible inside the seized vehicle, were transferred for destruction according to a doctor's order. During the initial investigation, the suspect linked to the goods confessed to what was attributed to him, and legal proceedings were opened against him.

A huge shipment of strawberries from Gaza was seized.

The ministry is using the opportunity to clarify that agricultural produce entering Israel is required to meet certain threshold conditions, among them: the obligation to pass goods through regulated places and to sample the produce for microbiological testing aimed at checking the presence of pesticide residues.

They make it clear that agricultural produce that does not go through these processes may pose a danger to public health.

During this period, the field strawberry was considered one of the popular fruits for smuggling.

Therefore, the Ministry emphasizes - for any concern about defective agricultural produce, it must be reported to the Ministry of Agriculture hotline 6016*, and it will be checked.
