The activities held within the 16-day campaign to combat gender-based violence in Homs included awareness lectures carried out by the Family Planning Association branch, in reproductive health clinics in the city and the countryside, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund.

The coordinator of the association’s branch, Dr. Farid Al-Sayed Suleiman, explained that the lectures include defining the concept of violence, its types, causes and effects, through interactive and participatory activities with the beneficiaries, in addition to topics of sexual harassment and its psychological and health effects, gender equality, underage marriage, forced early marriage, and the deprivation of girls from education, with the aim of disseminating Awareness among women and girls and awareness of their rights.

In her turn, the head of the youth committee in the association, Nour Al-Masry, indicated that about 60 young volunteers and former trainers in the association are participating in the campaign, using an interactive method directed at women in family planning clinics, and in a youth center in the family planning clinic in the Dublan neighborhood, in addition to the mobile team’s tours of a number of schools and social institutions.

The young coordinator, Abdullah Safour, drew attention to his participation in the campaign, through an awareness lecture about violence in all its forms for female students at Asmaa High School in the Inshaat neighborhood, with the aim of providing awareness and advice to them to confront cases of violence that they may be exposed to.
