Brigitte Autran, president of the Committee for monitoring and anticipating health risks (Covars) deplored on Sunday the " discouraging
" level of vaccination against Covid-19, also calling "
to
reinforce the wearing of a mask, as well as the gestures barrier
”.
"
It's really sad that the French do not get vaccinated, or not enough
," lamented the president of Covars in an interview with
Sunday newspaper
(
JDD
).
“
We have the same problem with the flu: there is a lower level of vaccination this year, compared to previous years.
The French really need to protect themselves
, ”urged the scientist.
“Reinforce the wearing of the mask”
According to health authorities, last Monday, 2 million people had received a booster shot against Covid-19 since the launch of the booster campaign on October 3 with bivalent vaccines.
Among them, 1.8 million people had been injected with such vaccines, which target the original strain and the Omicron strain of Covid.

Faced with the upsurge in Covid-19 cases, “
we ask to strengthen the wearing of masks, as well as barrier gestures and vaccination
”, pleaded Brigitte Autran while Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne this week launched a “
solemn appeal
» wearing a mask in closed places, in particular public transport.
“Caregivers must be vaccinated”
“
The return of the compulsory mask is a political decision and it is not for us to decide.
But we must go towards
wearing a mask
as much as possible in closed places, where there is significant promiscuity
, ”she added.
The president of Covars also indicated that the body which replaced the scientific council will give “
a complete opinion
” on the epidemic situation at the end of the week or at the start of the next.
Finally on the controversial question of the reintegration of non-vaccinated caregivers, the Covars is sticking to its position.
“
It is also a political decision, but we consider that caregivers must
be vaccinated
.
It is a question of responsibility.
That of the caregiver vis-à-vis his patients is to protect them and to protect themselves
, ”explained Brigitte Autran.
