The operation began with numerous emergency calls, after which "there was a lot of smoke coming from an underground car park and calls for help could be heard from there," according to the press report from the Munich fire department.
Several fire engines were immediately sent to Morassistrasse in the Isarvorstadt district.
They were able to confirm the heavy smoke development as soon as they arrived.

Residents have been instructed to keep doors and windows closed.
On site, the emergency services expected people to be in the underground car park.
Therefore, they proceeded with "five breathing apparatus carriers to rescue people and fight fires".
Another raiding party searched the stairwell.
