Several regions of Honduras will be under a "partial state of exception" for 30 days starting next Tuesday, December 6, the country's Secretary of Security reported in a statement this Saturday.

According to the entity, the sectors that will be under the state of emergency have been previously analyzed and stand out for their "criminal incidence" and other factors "oriented to the treatment of the scourge of extortion and related crimes."

The Secretariat said that it will later announce the "sectors to intervene in order to affect criminal structures in their financial and logistical components."

The measure also seeks, according to the statement, to promote "the gradual activity of economic development, investment, trade and security in public spaces."

The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, declared a national security emergency on November 24 to, according to the president, start what she called a "war against extortion" in the Central American country.

After a meeting that she held with the police leadership, where the so-called Comprehensive Plan for the Treatment of Extortion and Related Crimes was launched, the president of Honduras asked the police to recommend to the municipal governments to implement the partial state of exception and suspend constitutional guarantees in places that warrant it.
