The Kanye West effect:
the Senegalese-American singer icon, who in the middle of the first decade of the millennium was a fairly big star with an impressive string of hits, is not too moved by the anti-Semitic statements of the American rapper, who just last week praised the Nazi oppressor Adolf Hitler.
In an interview he gave last Friday to the British Sky News morning show, the 49-year-old icon was asked to explain why he supports West.
To this, he replied: "I support expressing an opinion, and I think that every person has a specific opinion about something. Once we reach a situation where we ignore the opinions of others, we will not get to know each other to better understand the situation."
"I'm a backer of the right to believe what you want to believe" says Akon, speaking on Kanye West's anti-Semitic comments - adding that if he spoke with Kanye he'd "give him my point of view on why I disagree " Because 'communication is key'. https://t.co/PAiZ4D1jU3

But it doesn't end here.
Icon, whose hits include "Lonely" and "I Wanna Love You", expanded and said that he supports the approach "that every person has the right to believe what he wants to believe", and if he disagreed with West's opinion about something - he would say to him it
And what did the free speech fighter have to say specifically about the rapper's words?
"It doesn't bother me that much, because these things don't concern me personally. And if it does concern someone personally, then they should respond in a way that creates a mutual dialogue," he said.
He added: "I think that sometimes, when someone is hurt, he tends to lash out and attack the other as a defense, so that the person who hurt him feels the same way. But when you react negatively, you only get negativity back. Don't take things personally until you understand the situation."
It should also be noted that tonight (between Saturday and Sunday), after receiving a lot of criticism for his words on the show, Icon tweeted a clarification, apparently to lower the flames: "Of course I don't agree with Kanye's statements about Hitler, I'm just saying that everyone should have the right to express his opinion. That doesn't mean we always agree."
I clearly do not agree with Kanye's remarks about Hitler.
I am simply saying that everyone should have the right to their own opinion.
