Although the agreement between Dassault (1) and Airbus only announces joint studies with a view to creating a complete system for the combat aircraft of the future and not yet a real industrial program, it is to be welcomed that the decisions announced by Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron in 2017 finally find a concretization in the project of Air combat system of the future (Scaf).
More concerned with its industrial interests than with the operational dimension of a weapons system that will allow Europe to remain at the highest level, the German side had introduced a third Spanish partner into a bilateral agreement: Airbus Spain.
It did the same for the common tank project under the pressure of a Bundestag itself actuated by interested industrialists.
Rheinmetall invited itself into a Franco-German tete-a-tete yet already carried out within KNDS, a joint venture between French Nexter and German Krauss-Maffei Weigmann.
