Georgia will hold the runoff election for the Senate on December 6, a contest between Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker, a former football player.

Warnock and Walker first faced each other in the general election on 8 November, but neither received more than 50% of the vote, forcing a runoff.

This is Warnock's fourth campaign in two years.

He first ran in 2020 against Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler to finish out the term of former Sen. Johnny Isakson.

That contest went to a runoff in January 2021, and she won it.

Warnock and Georgia Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff's victories gave Democrats control of the Senate in 2021.

Football player Herschel Walker easily won the Republican nomination earlier this year.

While Donald Trump's endorsement helped Walker secure the nomination, the former president did not campaign for the former soccer star in the runoff amid concerns that a visit could alienate independent and suburban women, critical blocs. voting in the state.

A Georgia election official said Saturday that the winner of Tuesday's runoff between Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican candidate Hershel Walker may not be known on election night after record early voter turnout.

"We're preparing for, you know, what's going to be a very close race," Georgia Secretary of State COO Gabriel Sterling told CNN's Pamela Brown.

"I anticipate that we may not know on Tuesday night. Just really because it depends on the voters and they're showing up in droves."

More than 1.8 million Georgians have voted so far, with some 300,000 people voting early every day last week, setting records for the largest single-day early voting turnout in state history.

As already mentioned, early voting for the runoff ended this Friday.

"Obviously there's a lot of enthusiasm," Sterling said.

"Both Democrats and Republicans can point to turnout patterns and say 'that's good for us' so no one knows what's going to happen."

A CNN poll released Friday showed Warnock with a narrow lead over Walker.
