Update from December 3, 10 p.m.:

French President Emmanuel Macron has commented on possible negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

It was said in statements to the French broadcaster

TF1

that in negotiations one must also give Russia "security guarantees".

However, Ukraine must decide when to start negotiations with Russia.

"I would give Russia security guarantees if the country returns to the negotiating table," the Ukrainian news agency

Unian quoted

the French president as saying from the interview.

At the same time, Macron drew a historical comparison and stressed that the decision to hold talks rested with Ukraine.

"Do you think, when we had to endure the conquest of Alsace-Lorraine, would we have liked it if a head of state had told us to do this or that?" Macron underlined, according to Unian.

He added: "It is the Ukrainian people who should decide on what conditions, how and when to negotiate, not us."

Selenskyj criticizes the oil price cap - "comfortable for the budget of a terrorist state"

Update from December 3, 8:05 p.m .:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is dissatisfied with the price cap of $ 60 per barrel for Russian oil.

It is not a "serious decision", Zelenskyj criticized in his evening speech, which was published in the short message service Telegram.

For the budget of the "terror state", according to Zelenskyj, the price is still "comfortable".

Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic countries had previously called for a lower price cap.

The Ukrainian leader stressed that Russia deliberately destabilized the energy market, causing damage to all countries of the world.

Nevertheless, the world does not dare to "disarm" Russia in the field of energy.

At $60 a barrel, Russia would get $100 billion a year.

In this way, the country would ultimately continue the war and also invest in other "terrorist regimes and organizations," Zelenskyy warned.

At the same time, the money would also destabilize the countries “that are now avoiding big decisions”.

Ukraine-News: Lukashenko accuses Ukraine of not being willing to hold talks

Update from December 3, 6:35 p.m .:

During his visit to the Belarusian capital of Minsk, Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu also met with ruler Alexander Lukashenko.

(Ukraine, editor's note)

are ready to negotiate comprehensively and humanely," the state news agency BelTA quoted the president as saying.

He accused Ukraine of only trying to continue the war.

"Well, then, in this case, the military special operation will never end," he stressed.

Update from December 3, 4:30 p.m.:

Update from December 3, 9:06 a.m

The training commission is paid for by the EU.

Now the 92.5-meter yacht Royal Romance is set to be handed over to Ukraine's Asset Recovery and Management Agency (Arma) after it is set to be sold through an auction.

After Putin invaded Ukraine in February, the West imposed sanctions on the assets of hundreds of Russian oligarchs.

Medvedchuk, known as a close friend of Putin and a Ukrainian politician close to the Kremlin, was also subsequently sanctioned and arrested in Ukraine in September.

However, the oligarch was later handed over to Russia as part of a prisoner exchange.

Putin is also the godfather of Medvedchuk's daughter.

Ukraine-News: Kremlin rejects Biden's condition for negotiations

Update from December 2, 3:10 p.m .:

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has described US President Joe Biden’s conditions for talks with Russia as “unacceptable”.

"In fact, President Biden said talks would only be possible if Putin left Ukraine," the state news agency Ria Novosti quoted the spokesman as saying.

However, the Kremlin will not accept this and the "military special operation" in Ukraine will continue, according to Peskov.

In addition, Washington does not recognize Russia's "new territories," which would "considerably complicate" the situation for negotiations, Putin's spokesman stressed.

At the same time, he said: "In order to achieve our goals, President Putin was and is open to talks with anyone." Russia prefers to achieve set goals through diplomacy.

Ukraine News: Scholz calls Putin and demands a diplomatic solution to the war

Scholz told Putin that this would require a withdrawal of Russian troops, government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said in Berlin.

The Chancellor also emphasized Germany's determination "to support Ukraine in ensuring its ability to defend itself against Russian aggression".

During the phone call, Scholz particularly condemned the Russian airstrikes against civilian infrastructure in Ukraine, the spokesman said.

According to Hebestreit, the Federal Chancellor and the Russian President also spoke about the global food situation, which is particularly tense as a result of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

Both stressed the important role of the recently renewed Grains Agreement.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said that packages with animal eyes had been received at diplomatic missions in Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia, Italy and the Czech Republic.

"Incidents" are said to have taken place in front of the Ukrainian ambassador's office at the Vatican and the embassies in Kazakhstan and the USA.

The parcels and letters were received synchronously from "a European country".

"Unable to stop Ukraine on the diplomatic front, they are trying to intimidate us," Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba commented on the incidents.

Ukrainian diplomats would continue to work unperturbed.

Security precautions have been increased at all Ukrainian diplomatic missions.

In the middle of the week letter bombs were sent to politicians and embassies in Spain, including the Ukrainian embassy.

Putin makes serious allegations against Scholz: Kremlin reveals details from new phone call

Update from December 2, 12:29 p.m .:

Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called Putin for the first time since mid-September and talked to him about the Ukraine war.

The Kremlin said Putin had denounced Western military support for Ukraine as "destructive".

The Russian president criticized “the destructive line of Western states, including Germany, pumping weapons into the Kiev regime and training the Ukrainian military.”

This, as well as financial aid, led Ukraine to refuse negotiations with Russia, Putin claimed.

He asked Scholz to put German policy on Ukraine to the test.

According to the Kremlin, Putin called the severe Russian attacks on the energy infrastructure in Ukraine "necessary and inevitable".

They are the answer to "Kiev's provocations" against the civil infrastructure in Russia.

Putin was probably referring specifically to the bridge to Crimea, which was severely damaged by an explosion.

According to the Kremlin, Putin once again called for the "terrorist attack" against the Nord Stream 1 and 2 Baltic Sea pipelines to be clarified through transparent investigations involving Russian authorities.

New satellite images recently discovered two mysterious "dark ships" there.

A radio station survey of the mood on the streets of Moscow shows a divided opinion.

Update from December 2nd, 11.46 a.m .:

The Finnish head of government Sanna Marin has, in her words, made an “uncompromisingly honest” assessment of the European defense capability – and comes to a sobering conclusion: Europe is “not strong enough”.

"Without the US, we would be in trouble right now," Marin told Australia's Lowy Institute on Friday (December 2).

The Ukraine war revealed Europe's weaknesses and strategic mistakes in dealing with Russia.

The Finnish Prime Minister stressed that Ukraine must be given "whatever it takes" to win the war.

The US has played a crucial role in supplying Ukraine with arms, money and humanitarian aid, she added.

"We have to make sure that we also build these capabilities when it comes to European defense and the European defense industry."

Marin said Europe had long taken the approach of "strengthening our economic ties, buying energy from Russia," believing it would prevent war.

That was "completely wrong".

Ex-Chancellor Angela Merkel, who followed exactly this strategy during most of her term in office, recently defended her policy towards Russia again - but also admitted that she had little influence on Putin at the end of her term in office.

Update from December 2, 11:12 a.m .:

Biden reiterates front against Russia in Ukraine war: "Strong as ever"

Update from December 2, 10:50 a.m.:

"As strong as ever" is the front against Russia and its attack on Ukraine.

US President Joe Biden emphasized this during the state visit of French President Emmanuel Macron in Washington: "Today we, France and the United States, together with all our allies - our NATO allies and the G7 countries, the European Union - reaffirm that we are as strong as ever against Russia's brutal war against Ukraine," he said.

Biden emphasized that they would continue to counter "brutality" together. "I knew that Russia was brutal.

But I didn't expect them to be so brutal." Putin must be held accountable.

"Our people, our people": Putin denies Ukrainians in annexed areas their nationality

Update from December 2, 9:30 a.m.:

In a meeting with young scientists on Thursday (December 1), Vladimir Putin denied that the residents of the Ukrainian regions of Luhansk and Donetsk were Ukrainian.

"They are our people," he reportedly said, according to the Russian state news agency Tass.

The two Ukrainian regions were annexed by Russia in violation of international law at the beginning of October after Putin had forcibly invaded there seven months earlier.

"I think it is clear to everyone here why we recognized the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk," Putin is quoted as saying by Tass. "Let's take young women, for example.

Why should a girl whose surname is Fydorova and who lives in the Republic of Luhansk be different from girls with the surname Fydorova in Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg or Moscow?

She is no different!”

Putin continued: "They are our people and we have to do everything we can to support them." For example, he wants to introduce "support measures" there that also exist in Russia in the field of education and science.

"All the necessary decisions are being made," he said.

At the end of October it became known that the new compulsory subject “Russian Ideology” was to be introduced at Russia's universities, which was said to contain some frightening theories.

Zelenskyy wants to stop the influence of the Russian Church - "Defend independence in the religious field"

Update vom 2.

In addition, the leadership of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church should be checked for connections to the Moscow Patriarchate by means of a religious expertise.

Structures need to be reformed and authorities given new powers to protect the interests of Ukrainians and the state, the President stressed.

"With this and other decisions, we will guarantee Ukraine's spiritual independence." Russia, on the other hand, accuses Ukraine of also restricting religious freedom.

Update vom 1.

Lawrow gibt Pressekonferenz: Russland laut ihm „existenziell bedroht“ worden

Update vom 1.

Moscow's approach is aimed at minimizing the number of civilian casualties, Lavrov also claimed in the current outlook on the Ukraine war.

"Compare the hysteria unleashed in the Western media now with what happened when the US bombed Iraq."

He also defended the attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, the increasing attacks in the war against Ukraine.

He accused NATO and the USA of having pursued such warfare in Yugoslavia and Iraq in the past.
