The head of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Leonid Slutsky, confirmed that the West's involvement in the Ukrainian crisis and ignoring Russia's warnings could lead to the military confrontation moving into space.
Russia Today quoted Slutsky as saying on Telegram: “Civilian commercial satellites that carry out purely combat missions can also become legitimate targets for destruction.”
Slutsky added, “The Russian Foreign Ministry warned about this recently, and if the West continues to ignore Russian warnings, just as it ignored our security demands before the launch of our military operation in Ukraine, this may lead to the transfer of military confrontation into space.”
He pointed out that the Russian Foreign Ministry has information about the West's use of satellites to transmit data to Ukrainian forces, in flagrant violation of international agreements to prevent the militarization of space.
